What makes a tattoo permanent? Color pigments are injected into an even layer of the skin, with a tattoo machine. Pigments, which are too large for the body to break down and wash out of the system, remain, creating a permanent tattoo. During a tattoo removal treatment these pigments are broken down and can be released from the body. Since tattoos consist of color pigments that can absorb the red light (consisting of short wave lengths) of the laser, they can easily be eliminated, by the immune system, which reacts to the color pigments as if they were contaminants and starts to wash them out through the lymphatic system. The skin is not damaged and the tattoo disappears gradually.
It is very rare that it is gone after one session. Therefore a tattoo removal will always need several treatments. Especially professional tattoos need several treatments, depending on the tattoo’s depth and color. The treatments are repeated every 4-6 weeks.
The easiest tattoos to remove are traumatic and amateur tattoos. Usually four to six treatments are needed here. Professional tattoos, especially ones consisting of an array of colors will need more treatments.
Number of treatments needed:
The number of treatments depends on many factors: color(s) used, the kind of pigmentation, depth of the pigmentation, the quality of the tattoo and the reaction time of the immune system. In your free consultation, your tattoo will be analyzed and the above factors are evaluated in order to find the best treatment method for you.
There are a few very important aspects that must be regarded when starting a treatment with the Cleanskin tattoo removal laser. In your free consultation, not only will the best treatment option be discussed, but also possible side effects, and what must be done before and after each treatment. For example, we advise our clients to avoid sun exposure to the treated area, for at least three weeks prior the treatment.
